Session 5 - Fight Night at the Red Ring

What Happened

Ten days passed since the last session. Icea put up posters across Hearth for a lost birdfolk child. Luthvarn worked on a farm to feed Faustina, who is now knee-high. Vorik prayed at a mountain shrine; it cracked in half, and Umbra crawled out. Kylos wore his Ring of Mind Shielding and was quiet.

At the Guild hall, Luthor Shrike introduced his newest hire, Fen Brightsteel. Then he gave the Guild a new job: play Blood Ball, for the town and for the Guild’s name. Blood Ball has a tradition: fight hard, but never finish anyone off.

Master Oryn Gold-Hand’s Red Ring stands in the farmlands outside Hearth’s walls. Hearth only really saw its progress over the last three weeks, when the posters went up. It was the first match in 12 years. The portcullises would not open at the start, and the delay bumped the Frostwatch Reavers’ match to next week.

In Wave 1, Sylvia rode Ghoul and threw Gnash Westmore the Black into a spiked pit. Bivel ran the crystal in. The Guild won.

Next came Concordia, the famous old Cydonian club. However, Concordia was claimed by something called “The Chorus”. Through Har Arixhan and every mouth at once, it invited Hearth into its mind. A quarter of the crowd stood with it. It called Luthvarn “like us”. Its scream filled Icea’s head with a million voices. Sylvia slipped the grapple of Isenus, the tank, and scored. The Guild won again.

The Chorus walked out with part of the crowd, and Big Berra went with it. Sylvia punched Har “for my dog”. The Chorus said “They choose blood”, and its part of the crowd attacked. It was total carnage. Fen finished Har. Icea brought down the healer, Vathil Stormwind. Bivel knocked Isenus into a pit. Vorik beheaded Orr Thornworth.

Then Kylos took off his ring. Time slowed, and only Kylos saw Mr. Corvin Natterjack: “Finally, I’ve been trying to reach you for so long, kid.” Kylos put Corvin’s card in the healer’s pocket and said Corvin’s name three times. Corvin snapped his fingers, and every Chorus member was gone, Big Berra too. The arena was half empty. Kylos kept a new card. No other hero saw any of this.

Oryn called it: “Remain calm!!!! Blood Ball has ceased!!!”

Notable Events

  • Fen Brightsteel joined the Guild.
  • About 70 people of Hearth are gone, Big Berra among them. Hearth believes the Chorus took them, and the town grieves.
  • Oryn runs The Blue Flame himself until he finds someone to replace Big Berra.
  • The Chorus invited the Guild to its arena in Cydonia.
  • The Frostwatch is investigating the Chorus.
  • The Red Ring’s opening got good reviews. But the town of Hearth has a road ahead of it in recovering from the tragedy of the opening night of the Red Ring.
